Something interesting :P

The videos in this site are just three but really interesting and funny. It is part of our bulgarian culture, the life make us different and really colorful :) It is not the actual reflection of the Bulgarian people, but a small part of it is the same. Unfortunately the translation can’t be literal because of the specific words and expressions but you still can get the basics :) Enjoy !

Who said that? I don’t know…. It does not really matter!

Ok, Hello again. This is my first post after the last submission of this blog address and I feel free to write about everything. I know that somebody will read it and if the blogs are still not graded it will be little strange but I don’t mind.

Right, what I suddenly decided to write is not the thing that I will write now. I just had something on my mind but I’ve just realized that it is a rough idea and something in my mind which is not really for sharing. The thing is connected with the photography passion that I think I have. But for the past few weeks and days.. yeah… I think that this is just passion to catch everything around me. I have no idea how I will get more professional in this and to be more… creative. I hope that I can realize some of the ideas that I have on mind and they will be ok and moreover somebody will pres the “like” button on Facebook or will write something good when I upload them here on WordPress.

Ok, I will leave you with your own life, ambitions, thoughts and whatever you what, do, have… I will go to my bed and will think about the things I want to do one day. Dreaming, my friends…. Good night and if you read it during the day the Good night is for the next night that is in your life. All right… I am going.

Final 1st year letter to self!

Hello, Me, or Gery, or G,

How are you? I bet that you feel good.

I am writing this letter at the morning of the last day for this module. Why I decided to do it now? Because this is the last day and this is a last letter.

This first year in the university for you was not easy but you did it! You did it! and besides I think that you did it very well and successful. You made some friends, managed to communicate with them and stopped to be so afraid of them.

Yes, I know that you didn’t have a lot of action in most of the projects, but this was your first time touching to the media at all and you have to be glad that you worked with people who are so into this and learned from them. Do you remember what Ken told you? Yes, that you are here to study and have to learn from everybody. And, yes, with looking at the others’ work, how they communicate with the people and between them, how do they work with the technique and software and so on now you can say that you know more things than the beginning.

You have to be proud with yourself and to tell thank to the destiny that let you be part of this amazing world of the media, Coventry University and England.

I wish to all your readers and to you too one amazing summer and a lot of great emotions!

Peace and love!

Coventry University Bulgarian Society

Everybody knows that Coventry University has this amazing opportunity for the people interested in different things to find some other people interested in the same like sport, muzis, dancing, cooking, films and so on. One society is the Bulgarian Society and found there bulgarians. It helps me to be little closer to my country and my nature. The society is from soon and there are not many activities that we are participating in. The bulgarians are people of the joy and having fun so the most we are having fun together. How? With bulgarian parties, with bulgarian muzic in bulgarian style.

So, basically, that is about my extra activity in the university. Nothing related with my course, just related with my country and nature :)

Interview – Amer Hesabu

Amer Hesabu is Sudanese refugee who lives in UK for already 7 years. He was the person who we chose to make our first documentary about 111 MC Researching for Media Production Module – ‘Coventry People’.

Amer was completely strange person for me. He is so different from the others not only because of his originality and history but because of his amazing ability to be good person. We made the interview a few days after his relative was killed in Sudan, the place that he left and decided to start a new life. He escaped from the genocide, from the death and fair. He came here and started to spread his absolute positive attitude to the world around him. It is amazing how calm and open is about the things that happened to him and is not afraid to go back in the past and the horrible reality in his birth place. He told us about the things that happen there. It was one of the most passional, scary, uncomfortable and disturbing conversations that I’ve ever had. We couldn’t say anything. We just sat there and listened to him. There is no way to say something in that situation. At that moment we all felt that this will be very emotional film. The interview was not so long, just a half an hour. But it was enough emotional for all of us.

I want to say that Amer is one great person. Only people with pure and calm hearts can behave like this after the things that happened to him, after what he saw in Sudan. People like Amer deserve respect from us. We all have what to learn from him! Look at the documentary and think about this.

“Bodiguards and Assassins”

This is the second Chinese movie that I watch and is based on the history os Asia and for second time I am impressed of the perfect work on it. Unfortunatelly , I am not a big fan of the movies full with natural violence. There were some scenes full with pain for me. However, I will write about the emotion in that film and the way that I saw the good professional work in that movie.

May be the most difficult films for producing are these based on historical facts. One of the reasons is for the good recreation of the real facts there is needed a great amount of data and good made research – people’s stories, books, archives, stories and etc. In that movie the most important part is the research.

The main topic in that movie is about the political changes , about the fight for freedom and how one family can be desolated because of strange fanatically conceptions. There is shown how the fight for independence could become in war and that everybody is ready to make brave sacrifices.

I don’t want to retell the film and even is I wanted I could not do it in propper way. If you want to understand completely what I am talking about you have to watch the movie.

The scenes in that movie are very influencive and unexpected. I felt very vulnerable and upset. I could only imagine how was that time. If I have to compare that kind of reproduction os real facts and the effectiveness of the scenes and narratives I can do it with the Bulgarian cinema. First, I can compare with it because I am very familiar with it and second because for now I’ve seen such historical reproduction like this only in the Bulgarian films. Oh, my mistake is that I didn’t tell anything about one really great film and this is “Brave heart”. There is something specific for movies like this – you watch it, wait for the horrible scenes and when they come you are not only frightened and also impressed. I think that it was really hard for the actors and also for the whole production team to create it.

With risk to say something for second time, anyway I will try to summarise. This is really professionaly made film, with a lot of effort and passion, emotion and feelings. I recommend it!

Dr. John Berra talks about the contemporary independent Japanese cinem

Covenrty University is as I am aware the first and only university in UK which give the opportunity to its students to get familiar with the Asian Cinema. Before one of the screenings the Dr. John Berra, who was invited by th university, talked about the history of the Contemporary Independent Japanese Cinema and not only but also for the Japanese industry and culture.

He started with some details about the history of the cinema and the history of the Japanese studio system. This is basically independent cinema. There was something interesting for me – that Hollywood actually and example for them.

Since the 1920 the Japanese system tried to promote the production not only by the cinemas, but also by the television. videos, merchandising and etc.  The center of the first Japanese cinema was in Tokio and the first and the oldest studio is Nikatsu studios based in 1920 and basically it was for action cinema. During the 1930 it was one of the biggest cinema systems. They decided to change the tactics with hiring new directors rather new actors. After 1950 they were influenced again by the Hollywood and specially of the specific genres like gangster films and romantic comedies. In 1954 they were more concentrated on action films. The Japanese cinema is interesting with his roman porn films which they started to produce in 1980s. In 1985 Nikatsu become in Kabuki action company based on the Hollywood standard. The  films produced after that were associated with lower – middle classes.

The independent cinema starts in the art theatre guild. The aim of the production and distribution of that cinema was mainly with commercial rather than industrial term. The independent cinema had only spiritual sense. There commercial films with leaving the studio and become independent intended to earn more money. Than the directors nad the opportunity to work in a ‘remarkably prolific manner’.

The new way of the Japanese theatre art to work was with distribution operation. They were interested of the political reactions and the films were based on political reasons. The cinema become less radical and less modern. After they changed the topic and the political films were reduced.

In fact if I think about the films that I’ve seen in the screenings I see that some of them were based exactly and only on political actions and reasons. They present this part of the history that they don’t like and this a kind of not very silent act of protest. I like the simple and easy way that they do this, not screaming against but doing it gentle and painful.

There is something interesting about the japanese cinema and it is that is not funded al all from the government and even financially they are independent. Because of the lack of resources the Japanese cinema is hard to be produced and distributed. That’s why they make mostly commercial films. It has a lot of exposure economically and little amount of available data. However, trying new thing like genres they are comercially successful.

Murray Walker talkes about his career in motorsport broadcasting

Interesting Cov Conversation was this for me, because of the reason that I am interested in every kind of sport. This is a motor sport’s commentator and talked about the way that leads the commentaries.

He started with telling some things about his personal story and how he got involved in this kind of sport. Basically this passion in motor sports in Walker is inheritance from his father. His father was professional driver and he grew up besides his father and his work. He also was a competitor but like he said “you need a gigantic ambition not only talent”. He worked with his father like a BBC commentator since 1949 to 1962. He pointed out that they were a great team and also it was really hard to recognise his voice of his father’s voice – they were really similar.

He told some stories about some occurences in his job, changes, techniques of leading the commentaries and feeling about his personal work in this.

The second part of the Conversation was with questions from the audience and started about Formula 1 and what does he think about this sport and his popularity. He compared the popularity of Formula One with the popularity of the soccer World Championship and the Olympic Games which are on every four years. There were some questions about his opinion about some exciting and interesting facts in Formula One and about the competitors. There was one sentences that I liked and it was: ” Winning the championship does not automatically mean that you are the best.”

For a long time he spoke about Bernie Ecclestone. One of the questions to him was straight for him. I confess that I had no idea who is this man and I Googled his name. I found out some interesting things about him.

Murray Walker started with Formula 1 in 1950. Like one article says “He has a distinctive, enthusiastic commentary style.”. The way that he talked about his work for Formula 1 proved this statement. He also told about some low and high moments in his career. He said that you have to “infuse and entertain with the commentary” not just to tell the audience what you can see and what do they do in Formula One. The good commentator needs to know the drivers because the audience is interested of them. For Walker Formula One is exciting and spectacular. I could feel his passion and his enthusiasm in this sport and his work.

Kakera – A piece of our Life

I won’t speak this time about the completely confusing that the East-Asian cinema lefts in me.

I started to think about what did this movie tell me. Usually the movies are made exactly because they leave something in the mind of the recipient. So, started to think first of all about my first opinion about the movie when the lights were turned on and you say something. What did I say? “It’s finished, finally!”

And after I started to think about the scenes in it and what is their purpose and what the creators want to tell me. Just to mention that when I watch any movie I think about it like it says something only for me. This is because every person in different, every person has different way of thinking, live and way of receiving the world, that’s why everyone of us is special and unique. Back to the topic, I realized that this is for these people who doesn’t know how confused they and their live are. It won’t be lie if I say that in the live of everyone of us there was at least one time, one moment, when we didn’t know what to do, where are we going, what are we doing there and here and how we will change the situation. We prayed to see the solvation of our problems and there is no light in the tunnel. And in moment that we don’t expect at all something appears and we are even more confused but we take the risk and go after the solvation or just the light. This is the thing that this film told me. It is not necessary to stay there where we are not wanted or where we don’t like to be. We just have to be brave and to take the moment and that there always is a light in the tunnel.

This girl, who had very complicated and null live lied herself that this is right and this is her place, but there is somebody to show her.

I didn’t like the movie at the first moment and still I can’t say that I will watch it again or will recommend it to my friends. It is just not for us.
